چکیده
Congenital aortic valve anomalies are quite a rare finding in echocardiographic examinations. A case of a 19 year old man with a pentacuspid aortic valve without aortic stenosis and regurgitation, detected by transoesophageal echocardiography, is presented.

Type F Congenital Quadricuspid Aortic Valve: A Very Rare Case Diagnosed by 3-dimenional Transoesophageal Echocardiography
Congenital quadricuspid aortic valve (QAV) is a rare cardiac anomaly. Several different anatomical variations of a quadricuspid aortic valve have been described. Aortic regurgitation is the predominant valvular dysfunction associated with QAV and patients tend to present in their 5(th) or 6(th) decade of life. This anomaly is rarely picked up by transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE). A comprehensi...

Dear Editor, A 39-year-old man with stable aortic regurgitation secondary to congenital bicuspid aortic valve was diagnosed with Streptococcus mitis infective endocarditis with low minimum inhibitory concentration to penicillin. Initial transoesophageal echocardiography demonstrated aortic root oedema with vegetations seen on the aortic valve. Despite improving clinical parameters on intravenou...

We report here two cases of patients admitted in our institution for heart failure. The first had been previously diagnosed with severe aortic valve stenosis and was referred for aortic valve replacement. The myocardial and valvular anatomy combined with the Doppler profiles allowed, however, to suggest the diagnosis of a discrete subaortic membrane that was confirmed by surgical findings. In t...
متن کاملEnhanced morphological diagnosis in infective endocarditis by transoesophageal echocardiography.
Thirty three consecutive patients with clinically suspected endocarditis were studied by both precordial cross sectional echocardiography and transoesophageal echocardiography. The diagnostic value of both techniques was assessed. The data were compared with findings at operation in 25 patients. In 21 patients with native valve endocarditis precordial echocardiography showed evidence of vegetat...
متن کاملRole of transoesophageal echocardiography in the diagnosis and management of aortic root abscess.
OBJECTIVE To assess and compare the roles of transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography in the diagnosis and management of an aortic root abscess. DESIGN To select patients with echocardiographic diagnosis of aortic valve endocarditis with and without an aortic root abscess and correlate this with a retrospective review of surgical and necropsy data. SETTING Tertiary referral centr...
